Cinque Terre – What you need to know
Unesco World Heritage Site since 1997, the Cinque Terre have been recognized as exceptionally valuable cultural landscape. It is a stretch of rugged coast of the Italian Riviera in the province of La Spezia.
The five villages, or lands, that make it famous and unique are from west to east: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore.
Monterosso is located in the center of a small natural bay, is the most populous of the Cinque Terre and the further west, the beaches are a bit more extensive and this makes it particularly Tourism.

Vernazza is a small village and is situated on a promontory that juts out into the sea. Famous local wine called Vernaccia. The picturesque harbor has always ensured a safe landing. Surely it is, between the Five, the most attractive and recognizable Land for the colors of the houses built in front of the marina. Established in the year 1000 still has remarkable architectural and fine, to form the artistic heritage of Vernazza are the Parish Church of Saint Margaret of Antioch, built in 1318 in Ligurian Gothic style; the Doria Castle and the Tower of Vernazza. Cinque TerreManarola The village consists of colorful houses perched on a cliff, beautiful walks that can be done easily as the famous Way of Love , a one kilometer long path built in the ’20s to join Manarola to Riomaggiore. It ‘a path overlooking the sea and alone is worth the visit of Manarola and Riomaggiore.
Riomaggiore is the most eastern village of the Cinque Terre, founded in the eighth century by a group of Greek refugees. The houses have the Ligurian colors and are in the typical towers scheme. To visit the Castle of Riomaggiore and Church of San Giovanni Battista.

When to visit: The mild climate of the Cinque Terre, makes them perfect even in winter seasons. The most frequent rains during the autumn season are still short.

With the coast path you can reach all the five countries in five hours of walking, and it is certainly less demanding of the ridge trail that reaches the shrines.
