The Silver Museum – What you need to know
The Silver Museum in Florence is located on the ground floor of Palazzo Pitti, in rooms with frescos by Angelo Michele Corona and Giovanni San Giovanni that used to be the summer apartments.
Some incomparable examples of gold and silver work, works in ivory, cameos and crystals are exhibited there.
The museum is also known as the ‘Medici’s Treasure’, and some of the most precious works on display include those from the collections of Lorenzo the Magnificent: a Byzantine chalice, a double cup made from Amethyst, and artefacts in ebony inlaid with precious stones.
The collection of cameos and jewels is exhibited in the mezzanine, together with an exceptional collection of oriental porcelains, containing over 1000 pieces.
